Buddhism is becoming a growing interest in the minds of many people around the world, but teachers who have studied extensively and can pass on the religious tradition are becoming rare. Over the past years many monasteries and nunneries were established in many countries, especially in Nepal and India. It is in these centers that the pure teachings of Buddhism are being preserved and kept alive.

Nepal is a poor country and its people, especially those living in the Himalayan regions like Dolpo, Mustang, Khumbu or Rasuwa struggle even to find the basic means of survival. Because of this situation, for many of the children education is a mere dream. It was for these and other reasons that Khenpo Tenzin hoped to establish a fully-fledged school in the Sakya Tharig Gonpa in Boudha, which could facilitate an opportunity to educate these poor children along with daily activities in the monastery.

By accepting these poor children the monastery is not only providing them with an opportunity to study but also rescuing them from falling into the ravine of desperation.

English subject was introduced in the monastery since 1993 but the school could formally be established only in the year 2000.

Regarding the further study, those monks who can successfully pass from the monastery school will be given the opportunity to study at any of the Higher Buddhist Institutes.
